The district spelling bee is composed of children from grades four through eight with the winner going on to the county spelling bee. The winner of the county bee goes on to nationals at Washington D.C.
In total there were supposed to be 24 children competing last night, but only 23 showed up. I guess the rain kept them away.
Mason did very well and finished in the top twelve of the district. They put him in twelfth place, even though it is more like tied for ninth or tenth because there were two other children who went out in the same round. But because Mason was earlier in the order he went out before they did.
A word he ought to know how to spell.
His goal this year was to make it to the district bee because last year he was the alternate from his school and was very disappointed when all the children from his school showed up at the district bee and he was not able to compete.
Here are your top twelve
That's awesome Mason!
