One of the things that was really neat was how they started fire. The man performing the ceremony put a chemical mix onto the wood, stepped back and started the ceremony. Just as he was calling Mason up, the wood in the fire pit burst into flame, apparently on its own. The sad thing was that it happened when he was calling up Mason and so I had the camera on Mason and missed the fire starting. But it was cool and the timing could not have been better.
We are proud of Mason and the work and dedication that he put into this. He is excited to start Boy Scouts now. We just need to figure out where he is going to be going. The Boy Scouts in the other ward, where he has been attending Cub Scouts, meets on Tuesday nights, which conflicts with Heidi's calling in the Young Women. The group Mason would be going to in our ward is composed of Mason and no one else. Heidi and I both think that going to scouts by himself would not be the best choice, but we don't know how to work it out otherwise.
Mason had a wonderful time in Cub Scouts and we are thankful for the leaders in the other ward who took in our orphan child and mentored him through the process.
Is Mason the only boy his age in your ward? That makes things hard. Congratulations to Mason.
