Beginning in the fourth grade our school district still offers a music program for the students. Mason has taken full advantage of it and now it is Amanda's turn. The school offers a summer band program for students that are starting the fourth through sixth grades. Amanda has decided she wants to play the flute this year. Actually, she wanted to play saxophone, but since we already had a flute, she settled for that. Mason's middle school band director helped teach the first week and we are grateful he was able to replace one of the pads on my high school flute so Amanda could play that. The thumb pad had almost disintegrated. She was trying to play on a junk flute we bought for $25 a couple of years ago, but it just was not working.
It was nice that her teacher let her participate in the end of class concert because she missed three of the eight days of class because of her aunts and cousins coming into to town to visit. As it was, she was already ahead of the class because she had been practicing for a couple of weeks, so when she came back to class, the class had just caught up to where she already was.
So without further ado, here is a brief clip of Amanda's first band concert.
We are so proud of her and look forward to many more moments like this one.
