All day long Rainer was telling Heidi that he wanted to go on an adventure. This was the first year he came along with Mason and me. He was so excited to sleep in the tent.
Once it got dark, they started the camp fire. We brought marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers so we could make s'mores.
Every year, we camp out up at a farm/ranch that some members of the stake own. They have a historic farm and they do period reenactments, so this year the program was a man dressed as Brigham Young speaking to us around the campfire. Last year there some one acting as Joseph Smith and one year we had Porter Rockwell come talk to us.
Rainer did not make it to the end of the talk. It was really cold at night. I was in a sleeping bag with a wool blanket on top to keep warm. I also ended up putting a blanket over Mason's sleeping bag so he would be warm enough.
The next morning the stake provided breakfast for everyone, and then we got to do some exploring.
Mason found a rope hanging from a tree nearby and tried it out.
The nice thing this year was that right up the road from us there was a group of people who go out and do Revolutionary War camp reenactments.
Mason started the morning doing some marching drills.
Then they let people fire black powder guns. Of course, they were shooting blanks, or better said, they weren't shooting anything at all, but it still gave them an idea of what it was like.
Mason said it surprised him when it fired.
Then we went and explored the camp and there were some activities to do there. One of the things that was going on was ax throwing. Let Mason show you how it is done.
Even Rainer was able to join in on the fun.
After Rainer got done he started to walk off with the Ax and so I told him he needed to give it back to the man that was there, so he turned around and tossed it at him. I don't think that is proper Ax safety.
It was a fun outing and it was a fun adventure for Rainer and for all of us. We got home around 11:30 am and I promptly took a nap.
How fun!! They have some good activities. I'll bet Rainer had a blast!
