The Fire Station

A couple of weeks ago, the cub scouts went to the new fire station in Yucaipa. All of the families made a plate of goodies to give to the firemen as a way of saying, "Thank you for all that you do."

We also were given a tour of the fire station and its trucks.

Everyone enjoyed that.

Rainer was especially excited to go.
Someone at the fire station asked him if he was excited to see the trucks and his reply was, with a big grin on his face, "Push buttons." He has never been to a fire station...how do boys instinctively know about these things? =)

The batteries on our good camera were low, so we had to resort to using our phone cameras. Considering the source, I think the pictures turned out pretty good. I took pictures with my phone and
we gave Mason Robert's phone so that he could take pictures too.
(I tried to get him to write this post, but he didn't want to...so I'm doing it.)

Mason was really fascinated with all of the equipment that was on the truck.

Mason had so much fun taking pictures. but I don't know if he had more fun taking pictures of the firetrucks or
of himself and his friends.
(What is it about a phone camera that compels you to take a picture of yourself?)

One of the firemen suited up and showed us the different safety features that help to keep them safe. If they do not move for 30 sec., an alarm sounds to let his fellow firemen know that a man is down.
This fireman let us hear that alarm. He had to slow down his breathing and hold completely still for 30 sec. It was interesting because that alarm is louder than the alarm that wakes them from a dead sleep to go out on a call.

After the tour, all the kids were able to try on the clothes.

We didn't even have Rainer put on the jacket...he would have completely disappeared.

The jackets were so big
that Amanda and Pili were able to fit inside one.

The kids were also able to get inside the truck and sit in the different seats.
I think this was Rainer's favorite part of the night.

The boys (and really everyone) loved listening to what the firemen said. I almost think that the fathers were more thrilled than their sons simply because of all of the questions that they asked.

When the tour was done, we had the awards ceremony for the boys that had earned achievements over the past month.
Mason earned a couple of awards.
(He looks so thrilled.)

It was a really good night and the firemen were even kind enough to share their goodies with us.
