Dog Beach

We went to the dog beach every day while Linda and kids were here. It really wasn't a very hot week. In fact, each day that we went it was colder than the previous day. But we still had fun and the dogs enjoyed it too.

Dog beach is the only beach that I know of that lets the dogs run free without having to be leashed. They absolutely love it. As soon as we got there, Spiderman ran into the water. And then, because he is a dog, he rolled all around in the sand.

He couldn't have been happier.

Monday was the best day, as far as warmth went, and yet this is what Nancy did to Aaron...
He was the only kid at the beach that had to wear a snow hat!

The kids had great fun playing in the water and the dogs couldn't get enough. At some point the kids decided to become explorers and discovered a hillside that they could climb.

They thought that was the best.

After a hard day of playing,
everyone was content to eat PB&J sandwiches for lunch.

Each day that we went to the beach, we dug a pit for the kids to play in and as a way to get away from the wind. Aaron even took a nap
and got to sleep in the pit that we dug. Kaza kept watch as he slept and at some point the dogs even got into the pit while he was sleeping and helped to keep him warm. The third day was so windy and cold that we made the pit really big so that everyone could fit in it. As we got one little section dug, Kaza thought we had dug it just for her, so she crawled in it, curled up, and hunkered down. As we continued to dig out the pit, Kaza got covered with sand. She was probably the warmest of all of us with all of that sand piled on top. Unbelievably, she continued to let us pile sand on her.
Linda couldn't resist turning her into a sea dragon. People couldn't believe that she didn't even try to get up.

Even though it was cold and windy, and none of us thought to bring jackets, it was a good week at the beach. The dogs couldn't get enough of the playing and even Spiderman, who is probably 10 yrs. old and has arthritis in his back knees and usually acts like an old man, ran around and swam and fetched tennis balls--he didn't even limp the next day or the day after that, in fact, he never showed any signs that he had exerted himself. We will definitely have to do dog beach again.

  1. I didn't know about the dog beach. That sounds so fun. I can relate to cold summer days though. That is what Alaska summers are made of.
