While Linda and kids were here, we made funnel cakes.
It really started last year when we bought funnel cake at Magic Mountain. Robert made the comment that it was something that I could probably duplicate at home. We found a recipe online and the kids love it when I make it. It is so easy and so good that we see no reason to buy funnel cake ever again.
(Really, there isn't much difference between the batter for pancakes and the batter for funnel cake. The only real difference is one is deep fat fried and the other one isn't.)
Ciera had been with friends all day long so when she finally got back to Grandpa's, she walked into the kitchen and saw what we were making. I don't think she really believed what she saw because she asked, "What are you guys doing?" Linda and I both replied, "Making funnel cake."
Her response was, "I just love this family!" I think I understand her surprise. What other family has funnel cake for dinner at 11:00 at night?
Gordon and Kyle also stopped by. Linda had left a message telling Gordon to stop by Dad's to visit and to have some funnel cake. When they walked in, they were a little disappointed. He had heard that I was making churros, so he and Kyle were looking forward to some--although if we had sprinkled some cinnamon and sugar onto their funnel cakes, I bet it would have tasted like a churro =).
We had a great time laughing and eating. I whole-heartily agree with Ciera. I just love this family too!

So, the second night we were at Grandpa's we made funnel cake for dinner.
