Masks

Years ago, when Linda lived at the beach for several months, she and her kids made some masks at the beach. They are really cool looking and every time she goes to the beach she thinks that it would be fun to do it again, but she never remembers to do it with enough time to get the supplies. This time she did.

She got the supplies Wednesday night so that we could make them Thursday at the dog beach. (We don't recommend doing that kind of thing at the dog beach. We didn't think it all the way through, so we didn't consider what a pain it would be to keep all the other dogs away from our masks while they dried. We just knew that we would be able to keep our dogs away. Poor Ciera...some dork dog ran right through hers just as she finished it so she had to make another one.)

Even though Ciera's mask got ruined, it was still a fun activity. Mason even made one
and he normally doesn't like doing art type stuff.

Once we were done creating our masks in the sand, Linda mixed up the plaster of paris and poured it into the sand molds. We then had to wait about 30 min. for it to set.
Once it was set, we carefully dug it out of the sand and brushed off some of the excess sand. We didn't think to bring things to measure the right proportion of water and plaster, so two of the molds didn't set correctly--they were still mushy in the middle after an hour.

Now all we have to do is glue on the decorations and figure out a way to frame them, or at least hang them on the wall. (Once we finish them, I'll take pictures and post them.) I want to do this again, but at a regular beach.
