Well, another school year has started. Mason and Amanda have just finished another 1st week of school. And although they were probably to the point where they were wanting to be back in school (Mason had started going through old video games to play because he was so bored), I wasn't ready for them to be back. This summer seemed so short compared to other summers. I really enjoyed having them around and at home.
Mason is in the 5th grade this year--where the time went, I really don't know! Luckily the DI program is still around and this year his teacher is one that he had when he was in 1st grade. Because the DI program started the year he was in 1st grade, she was the teacher who started his class down the journey of learning Spanish. I'll bet she will be amazed at how much those kids have learned in only a few short years!
Amanda is in the 2nd grade this year. She is thrilled to be back in school. She was starting to feel really friend deprived the last few weeks of summer. She has a wonderful teacher this year. Mason had her for 3rd grade, but because of the recent changes that our district made (getting rid of the class size reduction program for kindergarten and 3rd grade) she moved down a grade. I am really happy about Amanda's placement into her class because I know she will thrive in that classroom.
Because I wasn't ready for school to start just yet, I was fairly certain that the teachers weren't either. For the 1st day of school, I made some apple bread (yummy yummy) for Mason's and Amanda's teachers and I made sure that I made enough so that I could give some to a couple of my friends there at Palm. (Sheila posts some really wonderful and yummy recipes on her blog.) I don't know if the bread helped make the transition back into the school routine any easier, but it was sure good to eat! =)
This will be the last year, for a while, that Mason and Amanda will be at the same school at the same time. They won't be at the same school again until Mason is a Senior and Amanda is a Freshmen. I'm glad they have one more year together.
