Rainer the Reader

Many years ago, some one from church introduced Heidi to a series of readers called the BOB Books. They are readers that introduce letter sounds to the children progressively starting with very simple three letter words and then progressing on from there. Heidi has used the books with each of our children with great success. They have all been reading before starting kindergarten. So now it is Rainer's turn and Heidi is working through the books with him. There is a program on PBS called Word World which we think has really helped. Mason and Amanda each had problems sounding words out. They could get the sounds for each of the letters in a word, but then they had a hard time actually putting all the sounds together to figure out the word. That is basically what they do on Word World. They center each episode around a particular letter sound and then build words with that sound, showing how the letters combine to make the word. It a great program and we think it has really helped Rainer get past the stumbling block his two older siblings had because when Heidi started working with him in the BOB Books, he already had some idea of how sounding out words worked. Rainer enjoys reading to us and showing us what he has learned. He is a terrific reader.

So without further ado, here is Rainer the reader.
